How This Works
Data includes atomic number (protons in nucleus), atomic mass (weighted average of isotopes in atomic mass units), group and period position in the periodic table, element classification, physical state at 25°C, and key industrial/biological uses. Data sourced from IUPAC 2021 atomic weights.
Many symbols come from Latin or Greek names: Fe (Iron) = Ferrum, Cu (Copper) = Cuprum, Ag (Silver) = Argentum, Au (Gold) = Aurum, Pb (Lead) = Plumbum. These elements were known in antiquity and their Latin names were used in scientific nomenclature before modern naming conventions. More recently discovered elements use their English names: Hydrogen (H), Carbon (C), Oxygen (O).
