How This Works
All conversions use base units (metres for length, kilograms for weight, litres for volume). To convert: multiply by the "from" unit's factor to get base unit, then divide by the "to" unit's factor. This two-step process handles any combination without needing individual conversion tables.
Key differences: UK gallon (4.546L) vs US gallon (3.785L) — about 20% more. UK pint (568ml) vs US pint (473ml). A UK pint of beer is larger than a US pint. Fluid ounces also differ slightly. For cooking, check if a recipe uses UK or US cup measurements — US cup = 236ml, Australian cup = 250ml. Dry weight measurements (ounces, pounds) are the same in UK and US.
